Group photo project
Kildwick bus shelter – 1957-ish
Sometime after the accession of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1953, a breeze-block bus
shelter was built on Skipton Road Kildwick. For some reason, while it was being
built, it became the place to have your photograph taken.
Our archive contains three photographs of two groups gathered at the bus shelter.
One is a group of children from Kildwick school, with the Rev. Selby; possibly taken
on the day that the commemoration stone was laid – possibly in 1957. The second
shows members of the Law family, taken a few days later.
Sadly, the photograph of the school group is not of the best quality, but has been
enhanced as best we can and our “identifiers” for this photograph – Rod Parker
and Enga Preston – have identified all the children.
“Now can everyone turn round and face the camera ?”.
This photograph was contributed to our archive by Christopher Law.

Taken on the day the commemorative stone was laid – it’s visible behind the group.

members of the Law family.
About the “Group photographs project”
A number of group photographs have been contributed to our archive with very
little information attached to them. The aim of this project is to capture as much
detail as we can from those who might remember the events and people shown.
We are very grateful to everyone who has helped.
Can you help ?
Do you have any other group photographs from Kildwick or Farnhill. If so, please
